David J. Friedman assists businesses and attorneys with a variety of litigation, transactions, and general in-house counsel issues. He represents clients in the areas of business, intellectual property, and internet law.  Mr. Friedman also has substantial experience with employment, privacy, arts, and entertainment law.

Mr. Friedman helps businesses and individuals resolve disputes in a broad range of areas.  Relevant matters include contract, business and commercial, e-commerce, trademark, copyright, trade secret, unfair competition, domain name, employment, and collections disputes.  He also has experience assisting a variety of companies, entrepreneurs, and artists with intellectual property prosecution and enforcement work, including through the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board as well as in federal courts.

When not engaged in litigation, Mr. Friedman helps companies understand their options and manage risk in a variety of transactional matters, with an emphasis on contract, business, corporate, and employment matters. This work includes counseling, negotiating, and drafting a broad range of contracts and other agreements including goods, services, technology, employment, intellectual property, e-commerce, NDA, and website usage agreements.  A Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), Mr. Friedman has training and experience helping businesses address information privacy and security challenges.

Mr. Friedman was previously an Associate in the Washington, DC Office of Katten Muchin Rosenman, LLP, where he provided international trademark and other intellectual property law assistance to prominent multinational corporations. As an intern for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Mr. Friedman gained familiarity with the procedures of judges, attorneys, managers, and staff. Mr. Friedman is co-author of multiple legal reference publications in the fields of intellectual property, cyberspace, social media, publicity, privacy, and the Internet, including the popular Intellectual Property and Unfair Competition in a Nutshell treatise published by West Academic.

Mr. Friedman is admitted to practice in the State Courts of California, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and Maryland.  He is also admitted to the Federal Court of the Northern District of California.
